We started as a sail loft. We still make cutters like one.
Aeronaut began in the mid 80s as Aeronaut Sails. We bought a pen plotter, found no software that could plot anything but a sail panel, and wrote our own. Ten years later a sailmaker asked us to build a better cutter, and our first batch included the first D4 stringer. Today almost all the big lofts and production facilities run Aeronaut blade or laser cutters.
Cruising & racing sails
Cut Dacron, Nylon, laminates and carbon accurately enough for one-designs and heavy-duty enough for superyacht sails.
Membrane & string sails
Aeronaut stringers, yarn heads and laminators have made membrane sails in production lofts worldwide since 1996.
Spinnakers & insignia
Laser cut spinnaker Nylon without watching over it, and cut insignia cloth for sail numbers and lettering with a sign blade.

Accurate enough for one-designs, tough enough for superyachts
Aeronaut takes sailmaking seriously and makes cutters to suit. Fast enough for production lofts, and priced so the smallest loft can afford one. For most work a single rotary blade will do the job, from Nylon and Dacron to carbon and Cuben fibre.
One blade, every sailcloth
A rotary blade cuts almost any sailcloth. For difficult cloths, the Cam-lock rotary blade locks off to become a soft drag blade.
Seam allowances you can trust
Concentric marker holders keep the blade-to-marker offset exact at any size, so seam allowances are truly accurate. Fit ball points, plastic-tipped markers or a sign blade.
Quick-change Cam-lock tools
Change tools by hand in seconds: 18, 28 and 45 mm rotary blades, drag knives with depth stops, creasers and drill-punches from pin size to over 25 mm.

Frequently asked questions
Blade or laser for my loft?
There’s no single best cutter. A laser is best for most Nylon, Dacron, Kevlar and polyester laminates, but not for carbon. A blade cutter cuts everything, without a laser’s speed, ease and edge sealing. Most big lofts run both; for a smaller loft, it depends on your materials and market.
Can one rotary blade really cut every sailcloth?
For most work, yes: Nylon, Dacron, Spectra, Dyneema, carbon, Cuben fibre and acrylic cover cloth. For difficult cloths, the Cam-lock rotary blade can be locked off to work as a soft drag blade.
How accurate are seam allowances?
Concentric marker holders keep the offset between blade and marker exact, whatever the size, so seam allowances are properly accurate.
Can I cut sail numbers and lettering?
Yes. Fit a sign blade to the pen holder to cut insignia cloth for sail numbers and lettering.
Do you build membrane-sail machinery?
Yes. Aeronaut has built stringers, yarn heads and laminators since 1996, from 5 metre gantries to today’s 12 metre wide fibre-laying systems.
